Synopsis of The Diary
Written by TK
Kim and Lindsay get busted hitch-hiking, and Lindsay's parents decide they want to meet Kim's mom. They have Kim's mom over for dinner, and they basically like her, but after what she says about her own daughter, they forbid Lindsay to hang out with Kim. Kim's mother also tells Jean and Harold about how she reads Kim's diary to figure out what Kim is up to. Harold pressures Jean, and they read Lindsay's diary. All they find out is that Lindsay doesn't think very highly of them as parents. Jean goes out of her way to make changes around the house, cooking cornish game hen and lighting candles for dinner. Meanwhile, Lindsay tells Kim what her parents said, and Kim gets all bent out of shape, saying that Lindsay didn't defend her. Kim complains to Daniel, and Daniel tries to give Kim some perspective, but just pisses her off more. Daniel begs Lindsay to talk to to Kim, and finally Lindsay invites Kim to come hang out at her house... no matter what her parents think. Back at the Weirs' house, Jean is upset because Harold doesn't like the changes she's been trying to make around the house. She says that Harold doesn't appreciate her. Harold tells her how much he appreciates her, and how everything he does he does for her. She is touched by his words, and they end up having sex in the middle of the afternoon. When Lindsay shows up with Kim, they greet Kim, thank her for driving Lindsay home from school, and tell Lindsay to order some pizza for dinner before they disappear back in their bedroom.
Sam, Neal, Bill, and a really fat kid named Gordon Crisp always get picked last when they play soft ball in gym class. Bill complains that he might actually be able to play well, but he's never given the opportunity. He gets Coach Frederickson's home number, and calls him pretending to be Gordon's father. He says that Gordon really is more interested in sports, and would like more of a chance to play. The coach is surprised, but the next day in gym class he encourages one of the jock team captains to pick Gordon Crisp sooner in the line-up, and offers to make Gordon short stop. Gordon is horrified, and says he's happy in his usual position of right field back-up. Bill calls the coach at home again, and calls him all sorts of terrible names. The coach writes down what he heears on the phone, and then makes all of the kids read it aloud until he figures out that it was Bill that called. Bill says he wasn't doing it to be funny, but he was angry, 'cause he always gets picked last and he never gets a chance to really play. The coach says he's not the one who picks Bill last, and Bill reminds him that the coach has all the power. The coach doesn't understand, so Bill tells him to let Bill pick the teams. The coach announces that Bill will be picking the team, and let's Bill choose Gordon Crisp to captain the other team. Finally, Bill gets his friends on his team, and he's short stop, Sam is pitching, and Neal is catcher. Bill makes a spectacular catch right at the beginning of the game. All three boys are left feeling better about sports than they ever did before.
Nick is giving Lindsay a bit of a cold shoulder.
